Bánh Chung is Vietnamese food of glutinous rice which is the specialty of the new year Tet. Square shape, and the wrapping of leaves of a tree called the dong. Its contents represent rural prosperity in Vietnam (pork), and royal yellow color (green beans that have been peeled and crushed). When opened, the wrapper leaf to make the surface of the green glutinous rice which is a symbol of the abundant rice harvest. [1]
Glutinous rice is placed in the top few leaves are arranged as a wrapper. In the midst of glutinous rice is placed leaf. According to Vietnamese folklore, King Hung Vuong VI govern the country when people still think the sky is round shape, and shape of the earth is square. The king commissioned his sons who numbered 22 people to seek food terenak. Prince who brought food terenak will be appointed as king. Twenty-one prince set off all over the country in search of food terenak, but the prince of the 16th named Lang Lieu just stay inside the palace. He is good at hunting and writing poetry, but do not leave because the mother's milk that raised him is sick. One night, Lang Lieu guided in a dream that rice is the most delicious food. After experimentation, he created a new food of rice wrapped in leaves with rectangular and circular shapes. When spring arrives, the king gathered 22 people to his son. All food brought prince attempted by the king. Compared to food brought 21 other princes, foods made Lang Lieu was the most delicious. Lang Lieu explains that foods made symbolizes the sky (round) and earth (square). King happy with the explanation of Lang Lieu. Foods that are made Lang Lieu named as bánh chung (square-shaped food with the pack) and bánh Day (round-shaped food with the pack.)
